Aidon Get Real-Time Insight At A Global Scale With WATS

Aidon

Aidon is at the forefront of the energy transition, delivering advanced smart metering and grid solutions to help utility companies across the Nordics make their operations more intelligent, flexible, and sustainable. With over 140 distribution network operators relying on Aidon’s technology, the company plays a critical role in enabling the carbon-neutral energy systems of tomorrow.

Managing such a complex, global supply chain – especially one where a large proportion of production is outsourced – requires not just experience, but visibility. We sat down with Heikki Heimonen, Capacity Manager at Aidon, to understand how they have used WATS to gain that visibility.

From delayed reports to instant clarity

In roles at previous companies, Heikki was used to receiving a delayed picture of production performance – always a few steps behind reality. Weekly status reports were the norm – which meant that by the time issues were noticed, they were already days old. And when production is tight and lead times are critical, even short delays can have serious downstream effects.

But all that changed 6 years ago when he stepped into his role at Aidon with WATS already in place. Heiki immediately had access to real-time test monitoring, meaning he and the team could spot and investigate problems as soon as they happened – often before their production partners had even noticed the issue.

“It’s amazing to have this level of real-time insight into testing that’s happening around the world, all from the comfort of my desk.”

Making outsourcing smarter

Aidon’s global manufacturing model involves a network of production partners, across a range of international locations. When you’re thousands of kilometers away from where the product is being assembled and tested, having trusted data is essential. WATS provides that single source of truth.

Not only does it make it easier to monitor key component performance, but it also gives Aidon the tools to trace and resolve issues quickly – regardless of where in the world the issue occurs.

WATS is now such an integral part of operations that Heikki hasn’t worked a day at the company without it. That experience recently became an asset during a major change: when Aidon joined Enel, a large Italian energy group, and became part of a much broader technology landscape.

Thanks to Aidon’s success with WATS, they’ve been able to demonstrate its value to their new parent company, beginning with one site. The response? Extremely positive – and a wider rollout is already in the works.

“The way we can deep dive into any testing problems very easily and very quickly means we can propose a solution before a manufacturer even knows there is a problem.”

Sharper launches, smoother transitions

Whether Aidon is launching a new product or making a change to an existing one, the insight WATS provides is invaluable. Real-time monitoring means the team can track performance immediately and spot problems before they scale. Even compared to previous roles where production was handled in-house, Heikki says the visibility he gets through WATS – despite the distance – is unmatched.

As Aidon continues to expand and evolve, WATS will remain a central part of its quality and efficiency strategy. It’s not just about fixing problems faster – it’s about building a smarter, more proactive approach to production that scales across partners and time zones.
